Kansas City Southern
Road Numbers KCS 575 & KCS 583

These box car red 50’ flat cars have fishbelly sides, side mounted brakewheels with single beam and run on black roller bearing trucks. The Kansas City Southern was incorporated January 8, 1887 and began operating August 18, 1890. The road extended westward across the Kaw River into Argentine, Kansas, up the bluffs into the wholesale and industrial districts of Kansas City and eastward to Independence, Missouri. Today, the Kansas City Southern Railway is an international railway providing seamless rail services for North American shippers. Very long loads, such as this steel beam, require pivoting mountings on the cars which carry them.
