|
Santa Fe Diesel EMD SD40 (blue & yellow "Warbonnet") Road Number Santa Fe 2003 These models include bright-white headlight, blackened metal wheels, printed numberboards, MU hose detail and magnetic knuckle couplers.
Prototype Information —
First produced in 1966, the 3000 horsepower SD40 was one of the most popular locomotives ever produced by EMD. Although designated as a "Special Duty" (SD) locomotive, this versatile locomotive eventually saw all types of duty for a large number of railroads. What this locomotive lacked in power, she more than made up for with her dependability in service. More than 1200 of these units were produced by EMD for railroads throughout North America. Many SD40 units are still in service today, either with the original purchaser or a secondhand user.
Model Features —
These N-Scale models will be updated to include our White LED Headlight, printed numberboards, MU hose detail, and our magnetic knuckle coupler. The mechanism has been upgraded to be DCC-Friendly, designed for simple drop-in installation of a DCC decoder of the hobbyist's choice. The truck sideframes will be molded with high-mount or low-mount brake cylinders as appropriate for the prototype, and all models will be equipped with our new profile blackened metal wheels, similar to those used on the recent P42 models.
